This paper is part of the Learning from the Leaders series, organised by the Microinsurance Network and the ILO’s Impact Insurance Facility with support from the Generation Foundation. The series includes six core working papers and related webinars, including “Improving Profitability” – available to watch here (scroll to the bottom of the page).
This paper examines how inclusive insurance providers can strengthen distribution to reach underserved and low-income populations more effectively. The paper highlights four priorities for insurers: adopting a human-centred and multi-channel distribution strategy, building strong and well-aligned partnerships, managing distribution costs efficiently, and combining technology with trusted human touchpoints through “phygital” models. It concludes with a practical checklist to help insurance providers design and improve distribution strategies that can narrow the protection gap and increase the reach of inclusive insurance.
