The MiN is the only global platform which brings together insurance companies, regulators, development agencies and policymakers to find insurance solutions for the risks facing the world’s vulnerable population, of whom more than two in three people lack access to responsible insurance.
We aim to improve the resilience of low-income households in Africa, emerging Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean by improving their uptake of inclusive insurance and by contributing to an improved general environment for inclusive insurance.
We promote the development and delivery of effective risk management tools, including insurance services, to the billions of unserved and underserved individuals, families and small businesses who need it.
To achieve this, we encourage shared learning and facilitate knowledge generation and dissemination through our global, multi-stakeholder platform.
We envisage a world where people of all income levels are more resilient and less vulnerable to daily and catastrophic risks.
We believe that access to insurance is essential for sustainable development and that the world’s poor will not achieve lasting prosperity without it. Existing access is insufficient and approaches based on insurance principles are the best way to provide access to risk management tools.
Originally established in 2002 as the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP) Working Group on Microinsurance, the MiN was officially launched in 2009 with a secretariat based in Luxembourg, where it was registered as a non-profit association in 2012.
Since then, the Network has grown into a community of some 400 experts and 70 organisations from more than 50 countries.
