Microinsurance Network signs the Nairobi Declaration on Sustainable Insurance

Microinsurance Network signs the Nairobi Declaration on Sustainable Insurance

The Microinsurance Network is proud to announce that it has become a signatory of the Nairobi Declaration on Sustainable Insurance (NDSI).

Launched in April 2021 under the auspices of the UN Environment Programme’s Principles for Sustainable Insurance Initiative (PSI), the Nairobi Declaration represents a collective commitment by African insurance leaders to address environmental, social, and governance (ESG) challenges while supporting sustainable economic development across the continent.

By signing the declaration, the Microinsurance Network joins a growing community of insurers, reinsurers, brokers, and industry leaders working to align the insurance sector with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and strengthen resilience and inclusion through sustainable insurance practices.

The Nairobi Declaration closely aligns with the MiN’s commitment to advancing sustainable and inclusive insurance across regions. In 2024, the MiN also became a signatory of the Bogotá Declaration on Sustainable Insurance – a commitment by insurance industry leaders in Latin America and the Caribbean to support the achievement of the SDGs and strengthen resilience through sustainable insurance practices.

Together, the Bogotá and Nairobi declarations reflect a shared recognition that the insurance sector has a critical role to play in addressing climate, social, and governance challenges. They also reinforce the importance of developing stronger, more inclusive solutions that build resilience, protect vulnerable communities, and support long-term sustainable economic growth.

As a signatory, the Microinsurance Network supports the declaration’s key areas of action:

  • Advancing the assessment, management, and disclosure of climate-related risks and opportunities.
