About the Microinsurance Network

A not-for-profit membership-based association, the Microinsurance Network asbl (MiN) is driven by its vision of a world where people of all income levels are more resilient and less vulnerable to daily and catastrophic risks through improved access to effective risk management tools. Low-income consumers lie at the heart of our mission. We work with a broad range of stakeholders around the world to prioritise the needs, interests and well-being of our ultimate beneficiaries.

The MiN’s objective is to promote the provision and uptake of responsible and inclusive insurance products and services for low-income households and (M)SMEs, supporting the development of insurance markets that serve the poor and emerging middle class. We work in partnership with our members and other key stakeholders to deliver an integrated work plan that supports market development in Africa, Emerging Asia and Latin America. We provide a platform for knowledge exchange through virtual and in-person events, which include the delivery of training and capacity-building by expert members of the Network. Through targeted strategic communications, we also raise awareness of the need for inclusive insurance solutions that match the needs of low-income consumers and seek to be sustainable from a business perspective.

About the Landscape Studies

The Landscape Studies provide a unique benchmark for tracking the development of inclusive insurance in emerging markets, particularly in the African, Asian, and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) regions. The studies are the only benchmark that tracks the number of low-income people covered by insurance for different types of risk in the countries covered. Data is collected through extensive primary research that consists of identifying insurers providing inclusive insurance in each country and then working alongside them to collect data that enables cross-country comparison as well as tracking trends over time.

In 2021 we focused on 30 countries around the world and published the main report on the findings of the research at the International Conference on Inclusive Insurance in October 2021.
