The Third International Conference on Financing for Development held in Addis Ababa 13-16 July, closed with the adoption of an Action Agenda containing a series of measures to overhaul global finance practices and generate investments for tackling a range of economic, social and environmental challenges.
The Microinsurance Network applauds the efforts being made at global forums to address important development issues such as climate change, universal health coverage and financial inclusion and, whilst recognising the inherent challenges of agreeing on solutions to such global issues, is working to ensure insurance for vulnerable people and businesses is understood as part of a larger response to today's challenges.
The Network's role is to outline what microinsurance can do to support the achievement of global development goals. The Network believes that access to insurance is essential to sustainable development and that the world’s poor will not achieve lasting prosperity without it. With existing access being largely insufficient, the Network promotes approaches based on insurance principles as the best way to provide access to risk management tools.
