ILO offering fellowship opportunity in Mozambique

The fellow will be placed with a host (Moçambique Previdente, an administration and asset management company) for 12 to 14 months.

MicroEnsure provides health microinsurance and help to small-scale farmers and businesses in Kenya

MicroEnsure's work in Kenya, such as the "Fearless Health" pilot which integrates insurance with other prodcuts designed to help customers get the inpatient and outpatient care they need without delaying treatment due to costs, or success stories of helping small businessmen restart their businesses that were damaged and lost due to catastrophic events, are being held up as examples of how mobile phone technology can facilitate the distribution of microinsurance.

Importance of accessibility for microinsurance

Long-standing Network member Gilles Renouil, Director of Insurance Prodcuts at Women's World Banking believes accessibility is a key challenge for delivering microinsurance at scale. Accessibility can also serve as a good example of how technology and innovation can offer powerful solutions (and exciting challenges).

Based on his on-site observations taken during the evaluation of the ACRE Tanzania scheme earlier this year, Renouil elaborates on the "double challenge" of accessbility in insurance in remote areas and on the intrinsic nature of access and usage.

Training microinsurance professionals in West Africa

A total of 80 microfinance professionals have participated in two West African workshops designed to provide introductory training on microinsurance for microfinance institutions. The two one-day sessions, in Dakar, Senegal and Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, were organised by the MiN, the ILO’s Impact Insurance Facility, ADA and PlaNet Guarantee.

PSI forms Life & Health Advisory Group

ICRC calls for new financing schemes for humanitarian settings

The Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs welcomed Peter Maurer, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross to discuss new financing models for humanitarian settings this past Monday at the House of Microfinance in Luxembourg.

The Microinsurance Network, represented by Executive Director, Katharine Pulvermacher was present on the panel, along with other local stakeholders, Luxembourg for Finance, LuxFLAG, as well as Bamboo Capital Partner and Lombard Odier.
