Bolivia has made it possible for microfinance institutions (MFIs) to become regulated, and therefore provide valuable savings services, and access the capital markets to fund their growth. Through partnerships with the Private Financial Funds (commercial financial institutions), MFIs have been successful in offering financial services to the low-income market in Bolivia. However, MFIs still look for diversifying their services available to the poor. This case study also mentions what Zurich Group has developed in terms of in-house IT applications to facilitate the management of microinsurance specific activities, such as premium collection and claims payment processes.
