Women's World Banking (WWB) and Microfund for Women (MFW) hosted a three-day intensive workshop on developing microinsurance for low-income women, earlier this month, in Amman, Jordan.
The event, sponsored by Agence Française de Dévéloppement (AFD), saw highly interactive sessions of shared examples and best practices on client research, marketing and communications strategy, staff training, change management, operations, and monitoring and optimising product performance.
Participants heard from MFW's insurance partner, Jordan Insurance Company about creating strong partnerships between a financial institution and an insurance company. WWB also presented the findings of a recent study on the financial and social impact to date of the first private health microinsurance offering in Jordan, launched by MFW in tandem with WWB in 2009. The product has since been leveraged to develop and enhance microinsurance offerings in Peru, Morocco, Uganda and Egypt.
Nine different countries - Jordan, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Lebanon, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Uganda were represented at the workshop.
