With ever-widening accessibility to digital finance, there is more and more room and scope for cyber crime. The World Economic Forum’s Global Risks Report 2018 identified cyber risks as one of the two most prominent threats to the global economy in the next decade.

So what exactly are the cyber risks associated with digital financial services (DFS)? Does the financial inclusion field have the capacity to mitigate risks relating to new technologies and cyber attacks specifically? What are the tools that existing financial institutions have, to counteract potential cyber attacks?

As one of the sectors most affected by new technologies and with the emergence of InsurTech, how do insurers, and in particular those within the microinsurance space, tackle this challenge? Before looking into and investing in a solution, what needs to be in place?

Jean-Louis Perrier, Co-founder of Suricate Solutions will be on hand to talk us through some of the key cyber risks and challenges faced by businesses, as well as important factors to consider when aiming to provide a proven, scalable solution to these threats for MFIs and NGOs in the regions. For further context, he will highlight Suricate’s project in West Africa - setting up the first cyber security operational centre in Sub-Saharan Africa, in Dakar, Senegal last year.

Moreover, why is it important for organisations in the sector to rely on these solutions and what are the regulatory implications? David Medine, Senior Advisor at CGAP will also weigh in with his breadth and depth of experience on the topic.
