BIMA has partnered with Digicel to offer two existing microinsurance packages - Hausik Insurance (hospital cover) and Family Life - to all Digicel subscribers in Papua New Guinea (PNG).
Digicel users between the ages of 18 and 60 will be eligible to apply for these services, without the need of any paper forms or preliminary checks. Moreover, there are no formal employment requirements for users. To register, customers need to call a hotline and follow the instructions. From there, their insurance cover will be paid via the prepaid airtime (top-up).
BIMA Country Manager, Jonathan Vance said that the provision of low-cost microinsurance policies will help offset the inherent risks of everyday life with the aim of protecting the future of families in PNG. He also said that BIMA is looking to expand and address other areas of need in PNG, through education, support for customers and other innovative approaches.
